Schoolsnet Victoria gives Victorian Government schools both an ISP service and the administrative and community software tools that myinternet has built over the last ten years. These software tools were developed in Victoria and are now in use by thousands of schools in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Schoolsnet Victoria represents the most comprehensive fully-managed e-Learning service available to Australian schools.

Recently, both spam filtering and anti-virus protection has been added to the Schoolsnet Victoria service at no additional charge to schools.

In addition, myclasses, our exciting Virtual Learning Environment, and myportfolio, our new digital portfolio solution are now available for Victorian government schools as an optional paid addition to the Schoolsnet Victoria service.

The Schoolsnet service consists of:

Internet access.
Hosting of your school website and hosting of personal home pages for staff and students if they are given the privilege.
SINA provides a complete Internet management software service for schools. It is web based and uses simple point and click tools to allow your school to define and monitor your users' Internet access and activities. Some of the specific tools within SINA are:
- Create user accounts and set privileges such as filtering restriction/permissions, disk space quotas, email privileges and personal home pages for staff and students.
- Monitor and manage your school's Internet use to ensure budgets are achieved. Set cost control on a school and user level.
- Set filtering rules to a school, group or user level, with the ability to block or allow individual sites.
- Manage disk space with specific tools on a school and user level.
- Conduct online auditing of students activities and obtain traffic reports on a school or user level.
mydesktop is a personal portal for each user (teachers and students) which can be used as the school intranet, so you can communicate and collaborate via Calendars, Notice Boards, Discussion Rooms and other more flexible, customisable text and image area Properties.
mymail is a web based email software program. You are able to create an unlimited number of email accounts for members of your school. You can restrict students to use of email to within the school, check messages for profanity, block various attachments and block various addresses.
Anti-virus and spam filtering protection to reduce the threat of viruses and the amount of unsolicited email entering the school environment.

SmartFilter - Schoolsnet uses the SmartFilter filtering solution which is specifically built for the education environment. Unlike other filtering solutions, SmartFilter uses a highly focused team of human reviewers who understand filtering requirements for the education market.
The SmartFilter dedicated analysts and categorisation experts add thousands of new entries per day to the SmartFilter database.
SmartFilter filtering categories are built upon sophisticated Artificial Intelligence and proprietary technology with a database of over 16 million items.
School Internet Filtering - unlike other services which rely on an external filtering solution, Schoolsnet gives individual schools the ability to add their own additional filters to block access as well as allowing access to sites as they see appropriate. This is in addition to the SmartFilter filtering solution! This gives you the flexibility to decide what is filtered for your users rather than relying on a single filtering solution.
mymail Filtering - the myinternet service not only filters access to websites but it filters emails sent by your users.

Flexible Usernames

Schoolsnet allows a more flexible system for usernames because you don't have to share your domain with other schools. Instead of having john123@shareddomain you are able to have john@yourschooldomain. This makes it simpler and easier for your users to remember and use. You can also bulk create user accounts using the data from your admin system.

Unlimited Email

Schoolsnet offers web-based email rather than having to install, setup and learn an email program with on-site server technology. This means less maintenance, less setup time and less costs. This also means unlimited email free within the school.

Centralised System Vs On-Site Server

Schoolsnet is accessed through an Internet browser which means you do not require additional investment in hardware, complicated software installation or extensive technical expertise. This means you can use the tools immediately. Alternately, if you do have on-site servers, they can be seamlessly transferred over to the new service and will operate as they do currently.

Tracking and Cost Control

Schoolsnet offers you the ability to track your users' activities as well as view detailed statistics on Internet usage and activities for your school and each school user.
The school's Internet usage and costs can be closely monitored so that your school Internet budget is achieved.

Back up services

Schoolsnet offers a complete backup of your data every night.

Anti-Virus and Spam Filtering

Anti-virus software has been integrated into the Schoolsnet service to protect schools from the threat of viruses
The anti-virus solution will check all emails, external and internal, for viruses at the gateway, before they enter your school network; provide a centrally managed, always updated virus solution, saving you time; and protect against data loss and having to rebuild computers at the school due to virus attacks.
Spam filtering has been activated on the Schoolsnet service to provide schools with a means of controlling unsolicited email to save time, clear disk space, reduce the load on their networks and filter inappropriate material.

Service Quality

The Schoolsnet service is supported by our dedicated Help Centre which provides problem solving assistance and a problem notification channel to schools during the hours of 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
The service is very reliable and to illustrate this point it is guaranteed to be available for a minimum of 99% of the hours between 8am to 6pm on school days.
A subscription to Schoolsnet also entitles your school to receive our upgrades free of additional charge. We have a regular development cycle and as such regularly provide improvements to both the service itself and the software tools it consists of.

The pricing for Schoolsnet Victoria is split into two components - Managed Service Fees and Internet Service Fees.

Managed Service Fees
These fees are based on the size of your school (i.e. the number of staff and students at the school) and cover your annual subscription to the service, which provides you with access to all of the products and services mentioned above.

Internet Service Fees
